Let’s Talk About… with Rolf Roth. The Managing Director of dataglobal partner Boss Info AG on the growing success of the Swiss expert for ERP solutions and systems technology for SMEs, and how dataglobal has contributed to it.
Mr Roth, over the past year, Boss Info AG has recruited so many new staff members that I’m wondering whether you actually know each of them personally.
I’ve made a great effort to get to know all of them. Since they were recruited, I’ve met each of them once, and at least spoken to them briefly, even if I wasn’t allowed to shake their hand.
You now have offices at new locations in Switzerland and Greece. What’s the secret of your success?
From my point of view, there are three factors. First, we focused on German-speaking Switzerland and the ERP business. Second, and this is a very important point: reference selling. We have the clear goal of making every customer a reference customer. That’s why we put all our effort into making every project a success, regardless of the cost. As yet, we’ve not abandoned one single project. The third factor are our four values, to which we consistently adhere: Fairness, competence, longevity and commitment. These are the values by which we measure ourselves, our staff and our suppliers, partners and also our customers. If a customer is only willing to think short-term, or shows no interest in entering into a fair partnership, we prefer not to enter into a business relationship with them.
You yourself have been working at Boss for nearly 20 years, and in the IT sector since 1990. How has your work changed? Were the times ever as eventful then as they are today?
Essentially, the work hasn’t changed, although of course, the technology and tools have moved on. Since businesses now usually work with a series of subsystems, the focus is on networking them. I think that the times we’re now living in seem so eventful mainly because the amount of information has increased enormously. All information is available everywhere on the Internet. The difficulty is in picking out what is really important. Many people are overwhelmed by this challenge.
Even long before this, many SMEs also appeared to feel unable to rise to the challenge, and shied away from digitizing their business processes. Is the corona pandemic changing attitudes in this area?
Indeed it is. We have customers who were unable to function during the lockdown because all their staff started working from home and no-one was left in the office to check supplier invoices arriving by mail and approve them for payment. Thanks to the corona pandemic, we’re now experiencing an increase in awareness among managers of SMEs of just how important digitization of business processes really is.
Boss Info with its ERP solutions is an ongoing Gold Partner of Microsoft Dynamics. How do you make business activity, and life in general, easier for companies?
We make sure that our customers achieve more than before with the same number of staff by consistently providing digital support for all processes, making them faster and more efficient. All information, correspondence, offers, invoices, emails etc. relating to a business transaction can be evaluated as part of the company’s everyday business. The business intelligence solutions make it possible to view results and figures and optimize processes. This means that all staff become involved, and the executive has access to the latest management figures at any time.
You use the dataglobal CS software for document management and process automation. What benefits does that bring for your customers?
Thanks to dataglobal CS, all documents produced from the ERP processes are automatically stored centrally and passed down, for example when an offer becomes an order, or, in the next step, an invoice. In this way, everyone involved has access to the entire file at the same time. They also have external access to the complete archive. Since this is so easy and so safe, the staff can concentrate on their main area of work: processing the business transactions assigned to them. This is what makes the system so valuable, and such an asset for our customers.
2020 has been, and continues to be, a turbulent year for us all, full of uncertainties. Have you had time to take a breather and ask yourself what lessons we can learn from everything that’s happening right now?
I feel optimistic about our customers’ prospects for the future. The corona lockdown revealed the gaps and media interruptions in business processes, but also showed how we can close them. We have the right digital solutions and products to do so – not least thanks to dataglobal.
