The buyer is the founder and CEO, Wolfgang Munz
Heilbronn, April 11 2017. The zfhn Zukunftsfonds Heilbronn has sold its shares in dataglobal GmbH. Following a management buy-out by Wolfgang Munz, the specialist information management company is back in the hands of its founder in 2008. dataglobal was one of zfhn’s first investments.
The information management specialist, dataglobal, was founded in 1992 and supports its customers in establishing digital business processes, as well as enterprise information management and archiving of company data (enterprise information archiving).
Since then, dataglobal has implemented over 500 successful installations in over 40 countries, both for small and medium-sized businesses and for listed companies. Its customers include, among others, AUDI AG, Rhenus Logistics, T-Systems and the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur). Besides its headquarters in Heilbronn, dataglobal has two other locations, in the USA and in Romania.
In 2008, the zfhn acquired a financial interest in dataglobal. By July of the same year, dataglobal had already relocated its headquarters to Heilbronn. Since then, dataglobal has grown steadily, with sales and employees increasing tenfold during the years in which zfhn was a shareholder. More than 60 employees over the three locations now generate annual sales of over six million euros. For the zfhn, the sale of the shares represents its third successful exit in the last 12 months. Just last year, dataglobal moved within Heilbronn. The new offices are located in the WTZ III tower in the Zukunftspark Wohlgelegen, right by other zfhn portfolio companies.
“The company’s strong growth is testament to the excellent work of Wolfgang Munz and his team. dataglobal is well positioned and ready to take its next steps,” said Thomas R. Villinger, CEO of zfhn. “We are pleased that the company sees its future in Heilbronn, which is good sign for zfhn’s location policy.”
“With zfhn, we have had a strong partner at our side during the past few years. Without it, we would not have dared to take so many steps forward,” said Wolfgang Munz, founder and CEO of dataglobal. “The zfhn has supported us not only financially but with a lot of know-how too. In Heilbronn, it has created an ecosystem for young companies – an excellent environment for strong growth. At this point, I would also like to thank all the employees of dataglobal. Our success would not have been possible without them. Together, we will work to grow further not only at the Heilbronn site, but also across the company as a whole. I also wish to thank the zfhn team headed by Günter Steffen for their hard work over the past few years.”
Since it was founded in 2005, the zfhn Zukunftsfonds Heilbronn has been one of the biggest venture capitalists in Germany. It mainly supports young, innovative technology companies that are located in the Heilbronn area or are willing to establish themselves there in the short to medium term. The Zukunftsfonds is financed privately and has an equity capital in the three-digit million range. It promotes companies with capital, know-how and contacts in the economic area of Heilbronn. The goal is to develop Heilbronn into a very successful technology location. This includes the creation and expansion of technology clusters (MedTech, BioTech, Cleantech) in Heilbronn.
